A Journey to Asian Street at Indore Marriott

‌It was 28th February, the end of month and we all were called to attend Asian Street Food Festival at Indore Marriott for the Pre-Opening of One Asia, a restaurant which will be serving the cuisines from Asian Countries. I was glad to be a part of this event and to meet such great chefs that had achieved so much in their life. 😎

For now the event was organised in Indore Kitchen because One Asia is yet to be opened. But yet the  place was decorated amazingly, it gave a feel of authentic Malaysian restaurant. Then the management of Marriott has amazing hospitality. So lemme just draw a small picture of what everybody said and to give a gist about Marriott. The Executive Chef Vivek Kalia, he is heading all the kitchens of Marriott said “I was new to Indore and to know the taste What Indorians like, I went to local street market to see what people eat”  and this is how every cuisine which is being served at Marriott will give you a essence of Indore.

Now Here comes the Celebrity Masterchef Kuanlai, who was exclusively called to set up One Asia and for trial sake he came up with this Asian Street festival because he was so much in Love with Indores Chappan Dukkan and Sarafa that he wanted people to try Malaysian street food which is all COMFORT FOOD. He also represents a company known as Olive Tree Trading promoting their product – Bowl of Jasmine.

After a long chat we all started having our meal which was already served to us. It had two cocktails, 3 appetizers, a salad, 2 main courses and 2 desserts.
Lets start with the salad called Gado Gado, A very colorful Singaporean vegetable salad which had To Fu, rice cake topped  with spicy peanut sauce which made it a lil sweet and made it tastier & one of my favorites 🙈

Then I had a sip of this cocktail called “Mango Cocktail” which they said had 60ML Absolut Vodka and mango juice but it was a VIRGIN 😂 . That was actually hilarious bcz the waiter was so confident at saying and when Chef Vivek tasted it, it came out to be a normal mango juice . It was a total disappointment 😦

Bangkok sour, a cocktail which is available at all bars of Thailand is a Absolut Vodka based drink with freshly squeezed lemon and pineapple juice. So mine was bitter in taste and when i said to change it, The guy took my drink n never came back 🙈 . So I really don’t know how it tasted like.

Thai red curry fish cakes, i never had such a thing before. Deep fried fish in red curry which was served with a dip, sweet in taste. Its actually from the streets of Malaysia something different to try

Vietnamese fish rice paper roll, this is something called as Comfort food which chef was talking about, finely chopped fresh vegetables like carrot, lentils wrapped under rice paper roll very much bland in taste served with black sauce which I didnt like it. If you wanna try this (At your own risk)

Brinjal with sambal oelek – Never thought to eat “Baingan” like this. Now if I say in bloggers style, its roasted baby eggplant with homemade red chili garlic relish 😂. Not my thing to have and didn’t even expect this on my table. Its a very normal thing anybody can make in their house, boiled small eggplants tossed in red chili garlic sauce.

Wok fry okra chili black bean sauce – Like seriously, BHINDI ??  🙄 Again nothing so special about it, well its not Marriott’s fault. I’m not used to Asian delicacy, its all about comfort food street style. It was also boiled lady fingers tossed in black bean sauce. I dont think indorians will like both the things

Roti canai & Madras style chicken curry served with steamed jasmine rice, strange mix right ?? So this was all true because of the migrants from coastal and well traveled till Srilanka. This is how Indian food migrated and that’s why this chicken curry was sweeter than butter chicken because it was meant to be. A mixture of South Indian &  Malaysian served with white flour made Roti  Canai and steamed jasmine rice

Kari ayam mutabak: In layman language its called Franky which our moms is used to make at homes when its Sunday 🙈😉 . Its also white flour based egg based roti which was served with a sweet chili sauce. A typical Tamilian Singaporean thing.

I was expecting something extravagant in desserts but it wasn’t like that. We had a normal chocolate based cake and South Indian dessert called “Kuih Koci“which is normally served as prasad when you go to a temple when its Pongal or Onam. There traditional sweet i.e. rice based balls & mixture of Jaggery dry fruits & rice which i really liked bcz I’m a huge fan of there prasadam 😍
